STERRE PAKKERT
My work is touched and transformed by a neurodivergent experience of overstimulation, identity, emotion and communication in interactive installations, triggering and using the different senses. Through collaboration between both the digital and the analog, my work weaves two worlds together, questioning our relation to each other and the world around us.
My interest in different forms of communication is constantly fuelled by misunderstandings and unanswered questions. Why do we walk on the right side of the road? Is the clock a functional system? Why do we lie? Taking apart, questioning and rebuilding systems guide my sense of a world filled with (social) constructs.
I create to understand myself better. My work reflects deep-focus thinking, sensory intensity, nonlinear logic and aims to project them outward. Ultimately, my practice is a search for new ways to articulate the complexity of being human in a world shaped by social rules and technology.

You have to walk on the side walk, do not cross the lines. A red light means to stop. Bikers go on the bike lane and if you were to identify as a tree the park is where you belong; a perfectly delineated area limiting you in every way and if you happen to step or more likely grow out of line you can expect them to cut of your branches. Even on water with no flat surface to cement they manage to draw lines and roads with no further reasoning.
Today is a Saturday, which means tomorrow is a Sunday and the day after a Monday. School is off during the weekends but theres other rules to live by then. It's three in the afternoon now, I was supposed to meet someone at four. Days are split into hours, minutes and seconds. Structured so we have to follow and will always be late to everything. At night you sleep when its dark or when its not dark if the numbers of the clock tell you. Same goes for waking up, its linked to stupid numbers, the sun can go to hell.
Everything has a cost yet the one thing used to pay has no real value except for the one we decided to give it. Life and death depend on mere pieces of metal or paper. Or even a little plastic card we connected some numbers to. Digital numbers with no physical counterpart are counting your worth. Entire lives are merely measured in numbers and data. Numbers that are just a little symbol or word without any real representation.
You are supposed to say hi to the people you know, smile at the people passing by. You are supposed to be kind and loving, leave the bad opinions behind but when honesty is lost in sugarcoated niceness then where is authenticity? How can lying be a sin? If were all afraid of truth. Saying it just makes you blunt or even evil in some eyes. So lying it is, about everything around just to be socially acceptable. "how are you?" 'Bad' is not an answer, 'Not so good' is an unwanted reply and 'terrible' is social death. Needing help is seen as weak yet teamwork is commended and applauded, work together but do not depend on other people. Solve your own issues! Its okay if you need help.
